Usher, Lil Wayne Mark Justin Bieber's Birthday

'Happy birthday, slime. You in the club,' Weezy tells Biebs in birthday video compiled by MTV News.
By Rob Markman

When it's your 18th birthday, you'll probably get well wishes from mom, dad, and, if you're lucky, your teenage crush. But when you're Justin Bieber, you get shouts from Usher, Lil Wayne and Sean Kingston. Be jealous!

On Thursday (March 1), the Biebs turned 18 years old, and his most famous friends hooked up with MTV News to celebrate Bieber's birthday. "I hope that you are around all of your loved ones and having a good time. This is from big bro, from the heart," Usher said in a video piece compiled by MTV News for the Biebs.

The Confessions singer initially signed Justin along with his manager Scooter Braun, and he has since become a mentor to the pop star. So of course the 33-year-old Usher had to impart some b-day wisdom on his young homey. "Eighteen will give you an opportunity to do a little bit, not all, so we got a few more years before you can go all the way," he said, acknowledging the three years until JB turns 21 and is allowed to legally drink in the U.S. "Maybe I might even be able to sneak you into a club. Anyway dawg, happy birthday. I love you."

Comedian Kevin Hart isn't buying all of Justin's birthday hype, though. "Whatever Justin Bieber is supposed to be doing at 18, he was doing at 15," he joked after sending his well wish.

Platinum hitmakers RedFoo, B.o.B, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida all helped MTV News celebrate the occasion. Even Lil Wayne, who was with Bieber in the studio in February, sent a special message. "Happy Birthday, slime, the big one-eight. You in the club, slime," Weezy said, standing beside Young Money's Lil Chuckee.

As far as birthday presents go, it's anybody's guess what his buddies will actually get Bieber. But Robin Thicke bypassed tradition and instead hit up the "Never Say Never" singer for a loan. "Send me some money, Justin. You got way too much," he said, laughing.

But what do you get the young man who has everything? Sometimes all it takes is a few kind words. "Thank you to all the people that made the video," Bieber told MTV News. "It really brought a smile to my face."

Leave your own birthday message for Justin Bieber in our comments section!

Happy 18th birthday, Justin Bieber! Now that we've counted down the superstar's 18 greatest moments, stick with MTV News as we celebrate the milestone all day.

Concert Picks: Sleepy Sun, Starnes & Shah, swanifant?

By Lindsey Darden

sleepysun Concert Picks: Sleepy Sun, Starnes & Shah, swanifant...

We don?t know about you, but we are tickled that Spring appears to have made up its mind about staying or going this week. Flaw-free sunny days; comfortable nights; flowers and birds and SQUIRREL ? oh, my? It?d normally go without saying that such an uplift in weather and mood makes us want to share the love with everyone, but like most other sentiments, we?ve gone and said it. And hopefully our following round-up will inspire you to spread the word about a local act that (a) you?re already excited about or (b) wouldn?t have heard about otherwise. You know, like pollinating. Ish? Yeah, it?s kinda like that. As always, keep your ears open, and check out our picks for the weekend below?

 • Sleepy Sun | Friday, April 20 | 9:00 pm | 17+ | $10 | Subterranean, Chicago, IL ? Map | The NorCal-based five-piece rock band is more than the generalization will ever let on. They?ve soul in their musical workings, not even thirty seconds into a performance. They work a number of angles, but what really works is a harmony style that transcends both classic and modern rock. Sleepy Suns sound is what classic was while while it was experimental, and modern is while it?s nostalgic. In short, as far as we?re concerned, they are a worthy, recommended listen. Their newest album, Spine Hits, is out now. With White Hills, Soft Speaker ? Buy Tickets
 • Starnes & Shah | Friday, April 20 | 11:00 pm | 21+ | Free | Spike Hill, Brooklyn, NY ? Map | Starnes & Shah are an interesting folk duo, proving to be more in harmony than their vocals and overall musical style. They invoke the feel of the Big Apple with copious amounts of city imagery, but have a outdoors-y, storytelling vibe about them that has the ability to resonate and even haunt a little bit. Well played; their latest album, Red Brick Tide, was released this past November, and they will be playing a weekend of shows following this evening?s: in Vermont, Massachusetts, then back to New York. For more information, call (718) 218-9737.
 • Mice Parade | Saturday, April 21 | 8:00 pm | 21+ | $10 | Littlefield, New York, NY ? Map | Mice Parade is chockfull of influences, enough to establish familiarity, enough to admire good taste, and even more so enough to appreciate what awesome compositions can come from what has been under the sun for decades now. For example, one influence the ear may pick up is a little Paul Simon a la Graceland (if only at first); yet the heart and the mind will chime in that the rhythm/melody is fresh ? especially as the New York-based band (who will be playing an acoustic show tonight) has an undeniable talent at launching the listener into another style, amicably, and without warning. With Curtis Harvey ? Buy Tickets
 • Incan Abraham | Saturday, April 21 | 9:00 pm | 21+ | $8 | Central Social Aid & Pleasure Club, Santa Monica, CA ? Map | Pop rock with slight electronic and not so slight psychadelic influences, Incan Abraham is a somewhat self-professed smorgasboard of many leaves in the wind blown together and having found their calling in Los Angeles via artistic expression. In a very elemental way, their music has the ability to successfully transport whoever?s listening, and contribute to feeling something like joy, confusion, and all other involved emotions simultaneously. It is definitely a modern experience. With Busy Living, Kiven ? Buy Tickets
 • swanifant | Sunday, April 22 | 9:00 pm | All Ages | $5 | The Smell, Los Angeles, CA ? Map | This is the 80s that is remembered fondly, but isn?t automatically thought of when someone says ?80s?. No, this is the awesome 80s that wasn?t afraid to be a little less glittery than pop and general new wave. This was the swinging rock whose guitars wailed/screamed, whose vocalists brooded and moaned, and whose swirling layering effects were almost uncomfortable in their experimentation. And, to put it simply, this Oakland-based band is awesome at owning it beyond rational belief. With Cool Angeles, Dona Nicha.

Those are our picks and we?re sticking to ?em. Who?s on your To See List this weekend?

Beyonce Launches New Website Packed With Personal Pics

Singer's Tumblr features exotic pictures with Jay-Z, sister Solange and nephew Julez.
By Gil Kaufman

For most of her solo career, Beyoncé has been like the Diana Ross of her generation: a glamorous diva who's wowed us with her prodigious talent and envelope-pushing style while maintaining an arm's-length distance that gave her a pop royalty air.

But on Thursday (April 5), she joined the Lady Gagas and Katy Perrys of the world by taking a dive into the social media pool. For fans of a singer so private she wouldn't even confirm her marriage to hubby Jay-Z for years, it was a precious peek into the glamorous, globetrotting world of music royalty.

The "Love on Top" star announced the foray with her first tweet, "Hey World, it's B! I'm so excited to invite you to my new beyonce.com — we've been working hard, and it's finally ready for you XO." (It's worth noting that at press time with only one tweet, B's account already had more than 3.5 million followers.)

Hey World, It's B!I'm so excited to invite you to my new beyonce.com - we've been workinghard, and it's finally ready for you XO
— Beyonce Knowles (@Beyonce) April 5, 2012

And when fans checked into the personal Tumblr she'd set up, well, their dreams were answered. The page is a treasure trove of private moments, from Queen B chilling on exotic vacations with sister Solange, to pics of her arm-in-arm with Jigga, silly Halloween shots, pregnancy photos, arty still lifes and even a 15-second video in which a visibly pregnant Bey walks by a blue ivy tree.

Of course, daughter Blue Ivy was born earlier this year and people have been scrambling to figure out the meaning of the name for months.

The site also has a number of shots of the singer's nephew, Julez, and in a message entitled, "I Am," she explains, "This is my life, today, over the years -- through my eyes. My family, my travels, my love. This is where I share with you. This will continue to grow as I do. Love, Beyonce."

What do you think of Beyoncé's new Tumblr? Let us know in comments below!

The celebrity relationship rumor mill has churned out another juicy one today (April 20) with reports that teen sweethearts Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are taking their romance to the next level and shopping for engagement rings.

As expected, the rumor is just that. Bieber's manager Scooter Braun told Us Weekly that the reports are "complete bulls---" and that the Biebs' entire management team was very entertained by the fictional report. He said they were all "laughing" at the speculation.

So where did the rumor get started? Via a gossip item in the Chicago Sun-Times, which claimed that "several people close to the superstar couple" told the newspaper that they're convinced an engagement announcement is in the very near future.

The story went on to say that Bieber, 18, and Gomez, 19, were spotted at a couple major jewelry stores eyeing pricey diamond rings.

The lovebirds have been dating for nearly a year and, despite the public scrutiny of their relationship, are a normal teenage couple who share a similar "dating philosophy," according to Gomez. For Bieber, that philosophy includes honesty and patience.

"I don't know if I'm even the best boyfriend," Bieber recently admitted to MTV News during an interview on the set of the music video shoot for his latest single, "Boyfriend." "But I can give a few suggestions. I think being honest and patient, because girls can be tough sometimes, so you just got to be patient. That's two. Forgive, and have fun, because it's about having fun. Last one? Be faithful."

Concert Picks: Tes Elations, Savoir Adore, Teen Girl Scientist Monthly?

By Lindsey Darden

teselations Concert Picks: Tes Elations, Savoir Adore, Teen Girl Scientist Monthly...

Friday the what? See, that?s all you need to do today. Say it with us: Friday the what? That?s our method of operation. Who knows whether or not it will work, but we?ve heard that ignorance is bliss (except when it comes to Tax Day ? oh boy). Well, one thing we won?t be ignorant towards is the need for musical release; the best kind of therapy, and generally the least expensive. Five bands, three days, or seven years of bad luck? We?ll take the former two. Check out our picks for the weekend below:

 • Tes Elations | Friday, April 13 | 9:00 pm | Lot 1 Cafe, Los Angeles, CA ? Map | In addition to her current venue residency on Wednesday nights, the LA-based ethereal-esque five-piece will be headlining tonight?s show in support of their general awesomeness. Okay, not only that, but also their forthcoming self-titled full-length album ? of minimalistic, subtle electronic, and post punk proportions ? which will be released next month on May 11. With Siddharttha, Free Moral Agents, L.A. Girlfriend ? for more information, call (213) 481-8400.
 • Savoir Adore | Friday, April 13 | 10:30 pm | 21+ | $10 | Mercury Lounge, New York, NY ? Map | The Brooklyn-based pop-rock band is all about fusion ? of vocals and various sound, instrumental and percussion elements. ? resulting in balance, a mutual musical quality. Apparently experimental sound within familiar compositions is the new black, as theirs is a very comprehensible folk/pop/rock/electronic hybrid. They have previously toured with such equally endearing acts as Lights and Oh Land, and they?ll be playing is support of their latest EP released this past November, titled Dreamers. Also, this would be the chance to see them before they head on their UK tour next month. With Field Mouse ? Buy Tickets
 • Teen Girl Scientist Monthly | Saturday, April 14 | 8:00 pm | 21+ | $10 | Cake Shop, Brooklyn, NY ? Map | First things first ? a band without at least a slight sense of humor might as well try their hand at another art form. AKA TGSM, the New York-based outfit is also a pop rock hybrid whose demeanor and stage presence might as well challenge the unintended ill an audience might carry from week to week. With such melodically uplifting songs as ?RiverStomp? and ?Safari?, as well as fun n? creative music videos, we?d be trying too hard to not be interested. With Jackpot, Tiger, Norwegian Arms, Starlight Girls ? for more information, call (212) 253-0036.
 • The Cooling Time | Saturday, April 14 | 9:00 pm | 21+ | Free | The Satellite, Los Angeles, CA ? Map | The LA-based band might as well consider themselves neighbors considering their familiarity with the Silverlake residency. With vocal styling a la U2, and a little crowd invocation a la Coldplay, but still a whole lot of themselves, they?ll be headlining the event with a few of our favorites and a few of theirs. With Luna is Honey, Daniel Ahearn & The Jones, The Hereafter ? for more information, call (323) 661-4380.
 • The Naked and Famous | Sunday, April 15 | 7:30 pm | All Ages | Vic Theater, Chicago IL ? Map | The New Zealand-based pop rock band invokes a comfortingly familiar new wave and electronic vibe with an extensive vocal range, melodically and harmoniously. Even with elements all over the place, at the heart of their melancholy creative is a smushy pop center that keeps us anchored, and, well, a bit transfixed. And with the live component, we can only imagine more reverberations, bass lines, and elevated moods of the soaring sort. For ticket information, call (773) 472-0449.

Those are our picks and we?re sticking to ?em. Who?s on your To See List this weekend?

Taylor Swift, Rihanna Dress To Impress At Billboard Awards

Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Selena Gomez also make fashion splash on red carpet, as showgirl style rules at the Las Vegas event on Sunday night.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Sunday night, some of the biggest names in the music industry hit up the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and decided that sparkles and sequins make for the perfect additions to any red carpet get-up. Well, it is Sin City after all.

Taylor Swift always seems to bring some of that Nashville sparkle to any red carpet. She arrived at the show in a pale-hued, sequined Elie Saab gown. Nicki Minaj showed off her signature sense of style in her baby-blue, body-hugging spandex Mark Fast catsuit.

Selena Gomez turned up the style dial in a sexy, cut-out black Dolce & Gabbana gown that she paired with red strappy sandals with sparkly bow detailing. Like Gomez, Ke$ha opted for some cut-out detailing in her sparkly, slate-gray dress with tulle skirt. Rihanna looked white hot in her men's tailored Max Azria suit, which she kept sexy and feminine by not buttoning her shirt all the way.

Fergie went S&M chic in her little black bandage-type dress by Hervé Léger. Nicole Kidman also wore black. She paired a casual braid hairstyle with a long black gown and Keith Urban. British pop cutie Kyle Minogue looked funky in her little black lacey dress. Inside the show, Britney Spears sat in the audience wearing a skimpy black dress of her own, her hair in loose curls, with little-to-no accessories.

While some stars kept the color scheme low-key, Keri Hilson decided to stand out in her billowy little yellow dress paired with a turquoise-colored belt. Kelly Rowland showed off some of her best assets in a body-hugging, bright pink bandage dress.

The fellas also looked tight on the carpet. Joe Jonas wore all black with white sneakers, Ne-Yo paired his periwinkle suit with a Yankees cap and Justin Bieber wore black tuxedo pants with a gold-lamé tuxedo jacket.

Which stars' styles caught your eye at the Billboard Music Awards? Tell us in the comments.
